Part D for Assignment 3

Part D - Evaluation and lessons learned

I have to evaluate the integration of ICT during my Professional Experience and identify lessons that I need to apply for my future teaching.

In doing so, I should address the following questions:
Checklist that I need to pay attention for PART D?

When the marker sits down to mark my reflective writing for the evaluation section of Part D, they will be asking themselves the following questions (most of which are drawn from the rubric for Part D):

  1. Is the reflection actually about an experience related to the use of ICTs to enhance student learning or teaching?
  2. Is there an explicit link between the reflection and either the lesson plans (Part C) or the planning essay (Part B)?
  3. Does that link make sense?
  4. Does the description of what happened make sense? Do I understand what happened?
Remember, the marker wasn't at your site on your Professional Experience. They don't know everything that went on. Your description has to make it easy for them to understand what happened.
  5. Has evidence been provided to support the suggestion that this experience was successful or not so successful?
You can't just say it was a success. You have to explain how you knew it was a success (or not). The more evidence you can provide, the better.
  6. Does the evidence make sense and actually support the observation that the experience was a success (or not)?
  7. Has literature/theories/frameworks been used to explain what happened and why it did/didn't work?
  8. Do the literature/theories/frameworks used actually support the argument?
  9. Are the literature/theories/frameworks drawn upon mostly from reputable academic or professional sources?
  10. Is the reflection easy to read, interesting, concise, clear and logical?
  11. Are there any spelling, grammar or referencing mistakes?
  • Evaluate the use of ICTs as teacher and my students during the lesson time

Use some or all of the frameworks from the week 8 learning path to evaluate how your students an I usedICTs. For example, SAMR"using technology" versus "technology integration"the operations students were performing with ICTs etc.

  • What you've learned (5 marks)
    • Based on the above, how willchange my ICT integration planning (that I had developed in Part B of this assignment) for your next Professional Experience?
    • Why?

  • Three exemplary lessons learned

The rubric for the "lessons learned" section of Part D includes the following descriptors for the Exceptional Standard
At least 3 exemplary (e.g. innovative, concise, insightful, interesting, personal, clearly distinct, free of spelling/grammar errors etc.) lessons for using ICTs to enhance student learning are described
Meaning that you are going to need to identify 3 unique lessons you have learned about using ICTs to enhance student learning. Do NOT write about a lesson you learned that had nothing to do with ICTs and student learning.
    IMPORTANT – WARNING – WARNING
The use of "lesson" in this context does not mean a lesson you taught on Professional Experience and for which you developed a lesson plan. Instead, it means some insight you have gained from your Professional Experience and your reflections in the "evaluation" section of your Part D essay.

These insights you have gained must be related to the use of ICTs to enhance student learning. These insights are perhaps best thought of as answers to the question "What will you do differently next time you are teaching?". Following pages explain more about this.
  • Linkages with other assignment components

The exceptional standard for the "lessons learned" section of the Part D rubric also includes
Detailed and effective linkages with other assignment "components".
It should be very, very clear to the marker that each of your "lessons learned" arise from other parts of your Assignment 3. Some examples of this might include:
    1. How you have changed or added to the planning process you outlined in your Part B essay.
    2. How you are planning to build more upon the successful experiences you talked about in the "evaluation" section of Part D.
    3. How you are planning to limit/prevent the not so successful experience you talked about in the "evaluation" section of Part D.
    4. How you are planning to address or take advantage of the factors you identified in the "evaluation" section of Part D.

My answers to these questions should be supported with references to the 5 lesson plans submitted with this assignment, and appropriate literature and theory.
  • Links with theory and literature
And lastly the Exception Standard for the "Lessons Learned" section of Part D includes
Detailed and effective linkage with theory and literature.
When you are planning how you will change your practice into the future you need to draw upon professional and academic literature to explain and inform the changes you make. It's possible that you can use literature/theory to answer the following (but not just these) questions:
    1. Explaining the need for a change.
    2. Identifying the possible changes that could be made.
    3. Explaining why you chose a particular change to make.
    4. Outlining the impact such a change would have.

Important - focus on student learning
We are NOT interested in hearing these stories in your reflection essay.
Things to remeber :
  1. We are interested in hearing about what planned ICT activities successfully, or not so successfully, enhanced student learning.
  2. We are interested in you showing that you are focusing on the quality of student learning
  3. We are interested in you being able to explain how you knew student learning was enhanced (or note evidenced)
  4. We are interested in you being able to use literature, theory and research to explore some of the reasons where it was successful (or not so successful)
  5. We are interested in you being able to explain how you'll change your future practice based on this experience.

Rubric - Part D

Refer to the rubric below. The following provides some advice on how this component will be marked.
  • The evaluation section will be worth more than the lessons learned section.
  • Both the evaluation and lessons learned sections should
    • Draw on theory and literature to explain your position.
    • Make explicit reference to both your "Preparation and Planning" response for Part B and the 5 lesson plans you submitted for Part C of this assignment.
